In certain circumstances they can reduce damage to the eye.Hypromellose can also be used as a lubricant for artificial eyes and to moisten hard contact lenses.Brands available include Isopto Alkaline and Isopto Plain.Before using hypromelloseBefore using hypromellose eye drops make sure your doctor or pharmacist knows:if you wear contact lenses if you have ever had an allergic reaction to this or any other medicine if you are taking or using any other medicines, including those available to buy without a prescription, herbal or complementary medicinesHow to use hypromelloseWash your hands well before use Remove the outer cap Tilt the head back and pull the lower lid of the eye down to form a pocket Hold the container between the thumb and middle finger of the other hand, turn the container upside down near to the eye, but try not to touch the eye Apply enough pressure to the container to release one drop Close the eye and keep it closed for a minute or two. If you think that you have missed the eye, then insert another drop Repeat in the other eye if you have been instructed to use hypromellose in both eyes Replace the outer cap on the container, trying not to touch the applicator tip with any surface, including the eye or fingers Wash your hands after useApply the drops three to four times a day, unless otherwise directed by your doctor. The syrup, capsules, delayed-release tablets, and sprinkle capsules are usually taken two or more times daily. The extended-release tablets are usually taken once a day. Apply one patch to a clean, dry, hairless area behind the ear. The patch should be applied at least 4 hours before its effects will be needed. Each patch is good for 3 days. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand. Use the scopolamine patch exactly as directed.To apply the patch, follow the directions provided by the manufacturer and these steps: After washing the area behind the ear, wipe the area with a clean, dry tissue to ensure that the area is dry. Remove the patch from its protective pouch. To expose the adhesive surface of the patch, the clear plastic protective strip should be peeled off and discarded. Contact with the exposed adhesive layer should be avoided to prevent contamination of fingers with scopolamine. Temporary blurred vision and dilation of the pupils may result if scopolamine comes into contact with your eyes. Place the adhesive side against the skin. Press the patch firmly for 10-20 seconds. Be sure that the edges adhere to your skin. After you have placed the patch behind your ear, wash your hands thoroughly. At the end of 3 days, or when the scopolamine patch is no longer needed, remove the patch and throw it away. Wrap the patch in tissue or paper to avoid exposing anyone else to the remaining medication. Wash your hands and the area behind your ear thoroughly to remove any traces of scopolamine from the area.
